This work is about a young German-Jewish artist, hiding out in the South of France, who struggles to complete a monument to her life in paintings, in a race against time before capture by the Nazis. Based on a true story, it is a portrait of a woman with the courage to create a magnum opus under extreme duress. It is also an exploration of the creative process that gave rise to a unique work of art, and a meditation on the power of art to transform suffering.

This work was a Finalist in the 2013 William Faulkner-William Wisdom Competition, Novel-in-Progress category.
